At is often said that a fruit does not fall far from the tree, and that is the case of a former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo and some of his daughters.
One of his daughters, Kofo Obasanjo-Blackshire, recently launched a book titled, Pillars of Statescraft: Nation Building in a Changing World, at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs on Victoria Island, Lagos.
Obasanjo served as the lead panellist at the event, and he was joined by the Director General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Prof Eghosa Osaghae.
Dressed in a white kaftan, Obasanjo gave the audience some insights into the book.
Recall that the former president’s first daughter, Iyabo, who is also an ex-Senator and a former Ogun State Commissioner for Health, is an author as well. One of her books is titled, African President’s Daughter.
On his part, Obasanjo has never shied away from praising his daughters, often stating that he treats his sons and daughters equally.
In a speech at the 14th annual lecture of the Women in Management, Business and Public Service, which was held in Lagos, on March 22, 2018, the former president said, “My first child, my daughter (Iyabo) will not take nonsense from you. And if you try it; you would be put in your place. I give them the encouragement, and eight of my children have PhDs. I have more boys than girls; but I have more girls with PhD than boys.”
Some of the books authored by Obasanjo are My Command, Not my Will, and My Watch.
