Villarreal president, Fernando Roig, has cast doubt over AC Milan’s interest in Samuel Chukwueze despite the Rossoneri reportedly offering €25m, including add-ons for the Nigerian winger, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
While Roig admits Milan’s offer is far from the valuation of the player, he believes further talks are needed between both clubs to try and close out an agreement.
According to him, Villarreal will discuss transfers for the former Diamond Academy player if his asking price of €35m is met.
“I don’t know if Milan is interested in the player (Chukwueze), “Roig told AS.
“But if the interest is the same as when they came for Mateo Musacchio. On that occasion Galliani came and said ‘I want the player, but I have no money’, then we ate fideuà (a local dish) and went home.
“We are making the movements that the market allows us. The premise is to have a better team than last year. I am happy with the situation.”
Chukwueze had his best season in Europe with the Yellow Submarines last term, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists across all competitions this season.
His form has seen him linked with Real Madrid and former Italian champions Milan.
Meanwhile, reports in Italy claim that Chukwueze’s passport status could stall a move to the San Siro this summer.
The 24-year-old doesn’t hold an EU passport, so would take up the last remaining non-EU slot in the squad, with the other slot already taken by Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Daichi Kamada, who would also take up a non-EU slot, has already agreed to the terms of a deal with Milan but still hasn’t put pen to paper on a contract yet.
