The Olumide Osunsina Foundation has called on corporate organisations, philanthropists and private individuals to support the government at all levels in tackling the high rate of youth unemployment in Nigeria.
Its Chairman, Olumide Osunsina, gave this advice during the foundation’s first Youth Skills Training Programme graduation ceremony for 18 beneficiaries, which held in Ibadan, the Oyo State.
Osunsina, who was represented by the Director of the OOF, Desire Osunsina, urged the public sector and individuals in the society to give back their resources to better the lots of the undeserved youths in the society.
He said, “We have reached a stage in our society now that you cannot rely on government for everything. We have seen it and we know it, public spirited Nigerians should find time to help people.
“Don’t keep everything for yourself. Even if you give five per cent of what you have for charity, it would change a lot of lives.
“I am encouraging people both young and old, It is not age bound, you are alive, well and strong, do what you can, when you can.”
The foundation’s Project Manager, Ayodeji Oriyomi, disclosed that plans were ongoing to partner and collaborate with relevant bodies, agencies and organisations that priorítised similar social intervention initiatives.
He said 18 graduands who were presented with certificates and startup equipment for their various vocational skills, were among 20 selected applicants who undertook and completed a six month intensive skills training programme in four different vocational skills.
