Real Madrid face major blow as Courtois suffers ACL injury

Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, has suffered an ACL injury that may prevent him from playing the rest of the season.

Real Madrid confirmed the injury in a statement on Thursday. The statement read, “After the tests carried out on our player Thibaut Courtois, he has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The player will undergo surgery in the coming days.”

There is hope that he will return to the pitch in April, but there are concerns that his season may be over. It has been reported that Courtois left the training pitch in tears after the injury, The Athletic reports.

Real Madrid have already made contact with David de Gea’s representatives as a potential replacement, according to Sky Sports. De Gea recently left Manchester United on a free transfer.

Courtois has been a regular feature for Madrid since joining in 2018. He has made 230 appearances and won two La Liga titles and a Champions League trophy. His injury raises doubts about his availability for the European Championship next year.
