The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the killing of four persons and the burning of properties in a fresh communal clash in the Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state.
Although normalcy had since been restored, our correspondent gathered that the clash was between Oyofo and Awha villages in the local government area.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the clash started on Friday, around 10am with the burning of one tricycle and five motorcycles.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani, has since ordered the deployment of operatives in the area.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, said 12 persons had been arrested in connection with the clash and killings.
According to him, the deployment was to maintain the normalcy already restored in the area after the clash.
The statement read, “The Commissioner of Police, Mr Ahmed Ammani, has ordered the deployment of police operatives to Oyofo and Awha communities following the communal clash between the villages on August 11, 2023.
“The deployment is to maintain the normalcy already restored in the area after the clash which led to the murder of four males and the burning of one tricycle and five motorcycles.
“Twelve suspects have been arrested in connection with the clash and murder of the victims, and preliminary investigation shows that the clash is a result of a land ownership dispute between the villages.”
