Oby Ezekwesili, a former minister of education, has reacted to the Federal Capital Territory’s removal of the viral billboard that read “All eyes on the judiciary.”
As Nigerians wait for the decision of the Presidential Election Petition Court, according to Gistlover, the federal government had ordered the removal of billboards that attracted attention to the judiciary from the public.
Due to its support for billboards with the slogan “All Eyes on the Judiciary,” which were accused of attempting to sway the decision of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, the Federal Government had disbanded the Secretariat of the Advertising Standard Panel.
The dissolution of the panel on Tuesday was previously announced in a statement by the Nigerian Advertising Regulatory Council.
The panel had to be fired, Olalekan Fadolapo, Director-General of the ARCON, said in a separate interview with The PUNCH, because it had failed to reject an advertisement that did not adhere to the commission’s vetting standards.
Oby Ezekwesili responded to the news by mocking the federal government in a post on her Twitter account, claiming the digital billboard is much less expensive than the one they destroyed.
Ezekwesili noted that because of this, everyone is watching the Nigerian judiciary because it owes the people complete judicial independence, transparency, and integrity.
She wrote: “A Digital Billboard is so much cheaper than one that an obviously misguided regulator demolished.
“So here’s my message to our Nigerian Judiciary that constitutionally owes Citizens absolute judicial independence, transparency and integrity:
“#AllEyesOnTheJudiciary#AllEyesOnTheJudiciary #AllEyesOnTheJudiciary #AllEyesOnTheJudiciary #AllEyesOnTheJudiciary #AllEyesOnTheJudiciary #AllEyesOnTheJudiciary”
