The Chairman of the state’s Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Joseph Hayab, confirmed the incident to journalists today in Kaduna, the state capital. Kujama, is a few kilometers away from the metropolis.
Hayab said the incident occurred when the cleric was on his farm. He described the incident as “barbaric” while urging security operatives to exercise greater vigilance in the performance of their duties with a view to halt the nefarious activities of criminal elements in the state.
Hayab said, “The barbaric incident happened on Wednesday afternoon while the Rev. Jeremiah Mayau was in his farm at Prison farms kujama chikun LGA of Kaduna State.
“It is very painful that gunmen move freely in broad day light to execute their evil act and get away with it in a civilized society like ours where we have constituted authority that is expected to checkmate this criminal elements in the society.
“It also painful that when you raise an eye brow, you are seen as a deviant that is just looking for trouble while those in authority have otherwise refused to do the right thing to ensure harmonious coexistence among the citizens.”
As of the time of filing this report, the state police command’s public relations officer, Mohammad Jalige, had yet to respond to our correspondent’s enquiry on the incident.
