The Kano State Police Command FC, popularly known as the CP Boys, on Wednesday, recorded a 2-0 victory over the Nigeria Union of Journalists FC at the maiden novelty football match played at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
During the friendly clash, the jittery NUJ, who effected four substitutions within seven minutes of play, conceded the first goal barely 20 seconds of the commencement of the game. The policemen added another goal to seal the deserved win, despite a late rally by the journalists, but it was too little too late.
The match, organised by Kano State Police Command, in collaboration with the Youth Society for The Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices, is meant to promote unity and peaceful co-existence in the state.
In his remarks shortly after the clash, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Gumel, commended the police team for their efforts in clinching the 2-0 victory.
While praising his boys for winning the game, he also praised the NUJ for their efforts, pointing out that the objective of the match was to foster peace and unity, as well as entertain people and ensure collaboration in securing lives and property in the state.
The CP, who commended the NUJ team for their fighting spirit, described sports, particularly football, as a unifying factor and called on all stakeholders to cooperate with the police to secure the state.
