The Reds are looking to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the transfer window deadline. With Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and more recently, Wataru Endō already added to the side this summer, Liverpool may be looking at landing the 26-year-old defensive midfielder.
According to Independent UK, “Wilfried Ndidi may be considered as relegated Leicester City are willing to do business in the last few days of the window.”
In another development, former Premier League midfielder Jan Aage Fjortoft has said that Mohamed Salah is likely to leave Liverpool ahead of this week’s transfer deadline, Daily Mail reports.
The Reds do not want to sell superstar Salah despite Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad registering a strong interest in him.
Despite Klopp dismissing the rumors at Newcastle last weekend, the Saudi Arabian champions are still keen on signing Salah and offering him a lucrative deal, making him the highest-paid player in the country.
Fjortoft tweeted on Wednesday, ‘I understand it’s likely that Salah will leave Liverpool this week,’
‘The money offered to player AND club is just unbelievable,’ he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
‘The fact that the transfer window in Saudi Arabia closes 7th of September (as stated at Saudi – FA site – other places says even 20th) makes this also more complicated.’
Fjortoft, who is now a reporter, is viewed as an insider by some due to his links to the Premier League and Erling Haaland. However, he has been wrong in the past, such as when he claimed that Kylian Mbappe would leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer and that Jude Bellingham was keen to return to England after leaving Borussia Dortmund.
Despite his checkered past, Fjortoft is still being taken seriously by some, as evidenced by the fact that Al-Ittihad are refusing to give up on their chase of Mohamed Salah. The Saudi Arabian club are reportedly prepared to break the bank to sign the Egyptian forward.
