Shettima gave the assurance when he received a delegation of the Commission led by its Chairman, Mohammed Shehu, in his Office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The State House Director of Information, Office of the Vice President, Olusola Abiola, disclosed this in a statement he signed on Tuesday titled ‘VP Shettima receives RMAFC, assures of federal government’s support.’
The VP, who highlighted the importance of the Commission to the polity, stated that the Commission’s work transcends all tiers of government, especially when it concerns its arduous task of generating adequate revenue to deliver democratic dividends nationwide.
He noted that the FG under President Tinubu would address some of the challenges facing the Commission, noting that some solutions might require input from the subnational to the federal and the legislative to the judiciary.
The VP stated further that since the Commission is a constitutional body, any amendment to its mandate must pass through the National Assembly, especially any changes that would affect its operations, so that “you can perform your constitutional functions without difficulties.”
Earlier, in his remarks, the Chairman briefed the Vice President on the activities and achievements of the Commission, especially in the area of revenue generation and the efforts put in place towards addressing some of the challenges facing the Commission.
However, he disclosed that the Commission needs the FG’s support to solve some of its challenges and effectively deliver on its mandate.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the RMAFC boss argued that the reported increment of salaries of public office holders is a periodic exercise undertaken through careful considerations.
He assures Nigerians that there is conformity and equity in the nation’s revenue allocation formulae. However, he declined to give any specifics.
The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission is an agency of government that oversees the revenues accruing to and disbursing such funds from the Federal Account.
