Residents and motorists in the Oluwo axis of the Sagamu Local Government Area and Adedero in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State have expressed dissatisfaction with the poor state of their roads.
The residents said the deplorable state of the road had made it difficult for them to carry out their daily businesses with ease.
They stated that the state of the road was affecting their socio-economic life, noting that the government had refused to compliment their communal efforts.
A resident of Oluwo, Adebayo Onakoya, said the road has become a yearly battle during the rainy season, adding that their communal effort was no longer enough to solve the challenges.
Onakoya said, “This is the battle we fight every rainy season and we have been managing it with communal effort, which is no longer enough to solve our problem.”
A motorist in Oluwo, identified as Mr Idris, told PUNCH Metro that the state of the road had affected his livelihood and daily income.
Idris said, “What I make on a daily basis is nothing to write home about. I make little or no profit, and once there is a sign of rain, all motorists will have to retire for the day because the road will be slippery. We won’t be able to move. This is exhausting for us.”
Also, a resident of Adedero, Samod Obasa, told our correspondent that his community lacked the presence of government.
Obasa described the deplorable state of the road as an eyesore, even as he called for government intervention.
However, efforts made to reach the Special Adviser to the state governor on Works and Infrastructure, Adebowale Akinsanya for comments proved abortive as his phone rang out.
He also has yet to respond to messages as of the time of filing this report.
But Akinsanya had in August told PUNCH Metro that the government had been trying its best in terms of road construction and rehabilitation.
