A yet-to-be-identified male has died in a truck accident that occurred on Otedola Bridge inward Berger area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident happened on Tuesday morning.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Taofiq Adebayo, in a statement, said the deceased victim, who was a motor boy fell off and died immediately as the truck which was conveying wheats overturned under heavy rain.
Adebayo said Oduyebo Oluwole ‘Zebra’ (Zone 2) disclosed that the fatal accident caused severe congestion for road users travelling along the 7Up-Berger section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
He said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the truck driver could no longer control the truck after noticing a brake failure while on a top speed under the heavy rain”
“Oluwole confirmed that the dead body of the motor boy was recovered under the Otedole bridge and immediately handed over to Lagos Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) by Lastma officials.
“He confirmed further that while the truck was fully recovered off the Otedola Bridge after the completion of trans-loading of wheats into another truck, the blocked side of the expressway was totally opened for vehicular movement around 5:30pm.”
“Other emergency responders at the scene of the accident include LASEMA, SEHMU, Policemen from Isheri Police Division and other passersby,”
Aside the emergency situation caused by the accident, the stretch of the bridge was flooded due to the downpour.
Motorists were seen moving at a slow pace once they get close to the bridge. This also led to traffic congestion until the flood receded some hours later.
