Bees to sting Magpies
Sat in 14th place, Eddie Howe will be dissatisfied with his side’s start to the season, despite the tough start. An opening day 5-1 dismantling of Aston Villa put the Magpies in good stead for a tough run of fixtures. But three losses from three has Howe’s side lingering in the bottom half.
A tough, gritty performance at the Etihad wasn’t enough to leave Manchester with anything, as the treble winners ran out 1-0 winners. Things looked good at halftime at home to Liverpool, with an Antony Gordan goal and a Virgl Van Dijk red card making it comfortable viewing for the Toon Army. However, a late capitulation saw Liverpool emerge victorious. This was followed up by a sub-par 3-1 defeat at the AMEX to Brighton.
Brentford, on the other hand, are unbeaten. The Bees could perhaps feel unlucky to not have won their opener, with Bryan Mbeumo missing a sitter on the strike of halftime. Thomas Frank would’ve been happy with what he saw in the 2-2 draw and even happier with the 3-0 win at West London rivals Fulham. This was followed up by successive draws: 1-1 at home to Crystal Palace and 2-2 at Bournemouth.
Brentford boast the highest non-penalty XG in the league (8.45) and will fancy their chances of an upset-up North.

Wissa to continue hot streak
Since the highly talked-about Ivan Toney ban, Brentford are unbeaten. This has mainly been due to the form of Bryan Mbeumo and Yoanne Wissa, who have scored 11 league goals between them. The deadly duo have also shown a willingness to shoot, with 44 shots combined in seven games—an average of 6.28 per game. However, the player we have decided for a goalscorer pick is Yoanne Wissa.
The 27-year-old boasts two goals already this season. The D.R. Congo international has been a bit-part player for Thomas Frank’s side since his move from Lorient in 2021, only starting 28 league games from a possible 76 in the previous two seasons. In these 28 league starts, Wissa has scored 14 goals, showcasing his clinical nature.
Since the ban of Toney, Wissa will look to make the striker role his own, starting all four games this season and scoring two goals. This adds to the goals he notched against West Ham and Tottenham to end last season. Playing against a leaky Newcastle defence, Wissa will fancy his chances of extending his goalscoring run.

Hickey to find himself in the book again
Since his move from Bologna last summer, Scottish international Aaron Hickey has greatly impressed many, both going forward from left back and with his defensive skills.
However, the 21-year-old is no stranger to cards, as shown by his tally of seven in his final season of Serie A. He also racked up seven cautions in 23 starts last season, with the tough-tackling Scot sometimes letting his passion get the better of him.
So far this season, he has two cards from four starts. He will be up against Anthony Gordon, who has proven himself to be a tricky customer. The 22-year-old is a direct runner and is also prone to going down quite easily. On top of this, he excels at winding his opposite number up, so he draws a lot of yellow cards. Three of the four right backs to face him this season have been booked, with Kyle Walker (who only has five league yellows in three seasons) the only exception.
With Hickey proving he’s prone to a yellow card, up against a winger who draws as many cards as Gordon, we predict Hickey to be booked.
