The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has expressed sadness over the death of one person as a result of the flood that affected some parts of Kosofe Federal Constituency of Lagos State.
Abbas also expressed concern that the flood displaced over 2,000 people from their homes.
In a statement signed by the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, on Tuesday, the Speaker said, “I applaud the Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, for offering shelter to the displaced, who are from her constituency.
While calling on the relevant federal and state authorities to take immediate action to forestall the recurrence of such incidents he noted “I urge the National Emergency Management Agency to immediately provide the necessary interventions for the displaced persons.”
The flood affected a school, which turned into a residential building with 500 rooms, popularly known as Agboye Estate, Oduntan Street, Ketu, in the Ikosi-Isheri LCDA of Lagos State which caved last Saturday, following hours of rainfall that greeted most parts of the state.
In her response to the disaster, Ogbara reportedly donated a 10-bedroom duplex and boys’ quarters, which served as her constituency office, for the affected families especially children to take refuge.
The Speaker said, “the news of Hon. Ogbara’s kind gesture was pleasantly surprising, I commend the lawmaker for showing leadership by example.”
