The Zamfara Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Wednesday verified the murder of Alhaji Hamisu Danjibga, the state correspondent of the Voice of Nigeria (VON).
Ibrahim Ahmad, the state NUJ secretary, stated in a statement that the murderers discovered the deceased’s body dumped in a soakaway.
“The discovery of his corpse was a result of an unpleasant odour observed by children of an Islamic School behind his house in the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023.
“After breaking the soakaway, the dead body was confirmed to be that of Danjibga by his family and some neighbours,” the statement said.
Before his body was discovered, Danjibga had been gone for three days, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to sources, the anonymous individuals accused of murdering him hiked the price after the family was first approached to pay one million naira for his release.
NAN also learned that one person has been detained by the authorities on suspicion of taking part in the veteran journalist’s murder.
The NUJ sent its sympathies to the deceased’s family, VON, and all of Zamfara’s residents.
It encouraged security organizations to fully look into the situation and prosecute those responsible for the heinous conduct.
Islamic edicts required that the deceased be interred in Gusau.
