Ebonyi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday has dismissed a petition The All Progressives Grand Alliance and its candidate Prof. Benard Odoh, filed for governor, Francis Nwifuru to challenge his election as the state’s governor.
Nwifuru of the All Progressives Congress was proclaimed the victor of the state’s March 2023 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Unhappy, Odoh petitioned the court to annul the election of the governor of Ebonyi on the grounds that he was ineligible.
Through his attorney Jibrin Okutepa, SAN, Odoh had argued that Nwifuru was ineligible to run for the position of governor of Ebonyi State because she “was a member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly until and after the election and also occupied the office of the house speaker under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party. “.
Because Mr. Nwifuru was ineligible for the election, APGA and Odoh urged the Tribunal to annul his victory.
But in ruling on the petition, the three-member panel presided over by Justice Lekan Ogunmoye stated that the petitioners lacked locus standi to bring the case because the matter was an APC internal matter.
