The club stated this during a press briefing on its 85th anniversary and activities lined up for its celebration.
In a statement, the Vice Chairman of Ikoyi Club 1938 and Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Rufai Ladipo, highlighted the club’s commitment to corporate social responsibility.
Emphasising the importance of community involvement, he said it included, “Outreach to prisons and orphanage homes, underscoring the organisation’s dedication to social interventions and community development.
“We encourage our friends and the general public to be a part of our great celebration.”
According to the statement, one of the highlights of the celebration was a thought-provoking symposium titled ‘Managing change in ageing institutions’.
It said the symposium would feature a distinguished speaker, former Lagos State Governor and past Minister of Works & Housing, Babatunde Fashola.
“This event promises to be an insightful exploration of the challenges and opportunities faced by institutions with rich histories like Ikoyi Club 1938,” it stated.
Founded in 1938, Ikoyi Club had been a steadfast pillar of the Nigerian social landscape, providing a platform for the exchange of ideas, social bonding, and the development of sports and recreation.
He noted the club’s remarkable journey, had evolved from a strictly European establishment into an inclusive entity that embraced diversity.
While the club had transformed over time, it had retained the British tradition of excellence as its cornerstone, contributing to its triumphant narrative, he said.
Chairman, Tafa Zibiri-Aliu, emphasised that the club had always maintained high standards, admitting only individuals of impeccable record, pedigree, and social standing as members.
