He gave the charge during the opening ceremony of a three-day workshop organised by the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs for information officers and media aides held at Tahir Hotel Kano.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Abdulsalam Gwarzo, said the people of the state rely heavily on information officers for accurate information on the activities of the state government.
He said that the era of the analog system of accessing and disseminating of information is now a history as digital means of accessing and disseminating accurate information have taken over.
“So, information officers should make themselves abreast with how to make effective use of social media, websites, blogs and other platforms to achieve effective service delivery,” he said.
The governor also enjoined the participants to always relay the needed information to the general public with expertise and commitment to moving the state to greater heights.
Earlier in his remarks, the commissioner for information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, said the workshop was aimed at building the capacity of the staff of the ministry to make them perform their duties optimally.
“The choice of the theme of today’s workshop ‘Effective Information Dissemination in a Digital Era: The Roles of Information Officers,’ was deliberate as we took into cognizance the ever-changing developing media and communication landscape worldwide occasioned by the digital revolution and the need for our information officers to fully understand the trend,” Dantiye said.
He said a total of 214 personnel, comprising information officers of LGAs and MDAs, media political appointees, news and current affairs managers, reporters from selected public and private media organisations, and other stakeholders, were drawn to participate in the training.
