This was made known by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on New Media, Jubril Gawat, in a tweet via his profile on X (formerly Twitter).
The governor’s aide noted that the exercise was carried out by officials of the Lagos State Waste Management Agency, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps and the Environmental Task Force.
He added that the exercise also involved the demolition of illegal structures.
The tweet read, “Ongoing: demolition of illegal street traders structures around the Ajah Jubilee bridge.
“The combined team of Lagos State Waste Management Agency (@Lawma_gov), LASTMA @followlastma, LAGESC and Environmental Task Force also sealed the Ajah market today Sunday, November 5, 2023, in pursuant of the state’s declaration of zero tolerance ‘War on Waste.”
PUNCH reports that the state government, in a bid to ensure a safe and hygienic environment within the state, has hitherto sealed some major markets.
Some of the previously sealed markets are the Agbado Oke-Odo Market, Mile 12 International Market, Owode Onirin Market, Alaba Market and Alade Market in the Onigbongbo area of the state.
