The boy was reported to have fallen into the well on Monday evening when his leg slipped and he died before his body was recovered from the well by men of the Fire Service.
The corpse was later handed to one Mr Yusuff believed to be a family member of the deceased.
A statement by Hassan Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity, Kwara State Fire Service and made available to The PUNCH on Tuesday, noted, “On Monday 6th November 2023, a Boy of about 7-years old called Abdull-Haayi of Yaa-Lateef House, Tinu Street Akerebiata area Ilorin, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State, fell into a domestic well and recovered dead.
“The terrible incident occurred at about 17:28hrs (05:28 PM) and the brigade was summoned through an exchange telephone call by one Mr Idowu living in that neighbourhood.
“However, Firemen were able to recover the dead body from the well and later handed it over to one Mr Yussuf, a family member of the deceased.
“According to the report, the victim went to fetch water at the well, and during the process of fetching one of his legs suddenly slipped and he fell into the well.
Adekunle said that the Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, expressed his sadness over the incident.
The Director appealed to the general public to be more careful in their day-to-day activities and they should desist from sending under-age children to fetch water from domestic wells.
