Fubara spoke at the opening of the 2023/2024 Legal Hear and re-dedication church service held at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Hospital Road in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
This was contained in a statement issued by Boniface Onyedi, media aide to the governor and sent to newsmen on Thursday night.
He said it was important for Rivers people to also embrace peace so that the planned development for the state can be achieved.
The governor noted, “We have a mission to give you development. We also know that the devil will always come in, one way or the other.
“But the important thing is for us to identify it and push the devil out of our road so that we can continue.”
The governor pointed to the fact that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, remains his principal regardless of whatever has happened in the last few days.
Fubara said what transpired was now in the past, pointing out he never recruited anybody to malign any person.
Wike was at the church service where he had a handshake with his successor, Fubara.
In his homily, titled “Fear Not”, Bishop of the Diocese of Niger Delta, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Oko-Jaja said the spirit of fear needs to be overcome by firm trust in God and urged the judicial officers to uphold the truth fearlessly in the discharge of their duties.
In a related development, Fubara promised to provide support that will help in creating a sustainable environment to foster effective judicial independence and the efficiency of justice delivery in the state.
Fubara also spoke at a Special Court session held to mark the opening of the 2023/2024 legal year
He noted that though the judiciary and justice delivery system in the state is still a work in progress, so much has been achieved in the last eight years when compared with most states of the federation in terms of institutional infrastructure, strength, capacity and competence.
He added, “The new courthouse complexes, for both state and federal courts, the automated filing system, and the improved working conditions, including the provision of vehicles, and accommodations for judicial officers, constitute significant measures from the government towards achieving judicial effectiveness and efficiency in our state.”
While launching a book titled, “History of Rivers State Judiciary, A Compendium of Personalities on the Bench,” Fubara supported the effort with N50 million as he assured them that his administration would not relent in improving the welfare of judicial officers and commended the Chief Judge of Rivers State for his leadership and resourcefulness.
Speaking earlier, the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, applauded the governor for his quality leadership.
