This was disclosed in a statement made available on Sunday via the agency’s verified handle on X (formerly Twitter).
According to the statement, the contraband items that were seized include Cannabis Sativa weighing 777.5 kilogrammes and a Dane gun, among other items, while noting that the illicit drugs will be handed over to the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further action.
The statement read in parts, “The Nigeria Customs Service Oyo/Osun Command has intercepted Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana), a Dane gun, and other items worth over N51.1 million.
“Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Ben Oramalugo, revealed in a press briefing on Friday, 10 November 2023, that the command seized 64 sacks and 150 compressed Cannabis Sativa from various areas within its jurisdiction.
“Other confiscated items include 1,248 (50kg) of parboiled rice, 425 (25 litres) of PMS, 24 bales of used clothing, and 1 used bag. The total weight of the illegal substances is 777.5kg, and they will be handed over to the NDLEA on Friday, November 10, 2023.”
The statement further disclosed that the command generated N11 billion as revenue in two months while a cumulative N59 billion was generated through trade facilitation, enforcement of Customs laws and a conducive business environment.
“Additionally, the Customs Area Controller announced that the Command had generated N11,679,732,583.91 as revenue for the Federal Government in September and October 2023. Combined with the revenue collected from January to August 2023, the Command’s total collection stands at N59,087,983,670.64.
“Oramalugo attributed this success to the Command’s commitment to trade facilitation, enforcement of Customs laws, and fostering a conducive business environment while issuing a warning to those with nefarious intentions, stating that the Command would deploy all available resources in accordance with the new Nigeria Customs Service Act of 2023 to frustrate and bring economic saboteurs to justice,” the statement stated.
