The governor, who briefed journalists after a security meeting involving the Commissioner of Police and the Brigade Commander of the 23rd Armoured Brigade in the state, said both camps suffered the loss of one personnel each.
Fintiri also blamed the incident that shattered the peace in the North Eastern state on overzealousness on the part of the personnel of the security agencies.
According to the governor, both sides suffered casualties as one policeman and one soldier lost their lives in the clash which also left several other personnel sustaining different degrees of injuries.
Fintiri, however, said he received assurances from both parties during the state High Command Strategic Security meeting from both camps would never again be involved in such an embarrassing clash, which has drawn wide condemnation and cast its personnel as undisciplined.
Asked about the cause of the clash, Fintiri maintained it was the result of overzealousness from men in the security agencies.
He said, “The two officers, the Commissioner of Police and the Brigade Commander, are on top of the situation. Discussions will continue, and relationships will continue. Everything will be resolved.
“Overzealousness of the men of the service, particularly not really knowing what happened, and then going to take the laws into their hands led to the ugly incident. But investigation is still ongoing. We assure you that the experience we had yesterday will not repeat itself again. I assure you.
“We have taken note of the men of the security forces that have lost their lives. One Army personnel and a policeman lost their lives.”
The governor also assured residents that, following discussions, all the issues that led to the clash were extensively discussed and that both parties had agreed to work for the peace and security of the state.
