Trabzonspor striker, Paul Onuachu, says he will decide on his future at the end of his loan spell at Trabzonspor, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Onuachu who recently scored a sensational acrobatic winner for Trabzonspor in their 2-1 win over Konyaspor in a Super Lig game before the international break, joined Black Sea Storm last September after failing to register a goal or assist for Southampton in the Premier League before the Saints were relegated.
The 28-year-old striker was allowed to leave Saint Marys after new Southampton boss Russell Martin signed Ross Stewart from Sunderland and retained the services of Che Adams.
Since he arrived at Trabzonspor, Onuachu has thrived in the Turkish league scoring six goals in eight games with the Saints reportedly keen to bring him back in the summer and his new club keen to retain his services beyond next summer.
“Nothing is certain for now, I can’t say anything about what the future holds for me,” Onuachu said.
Meanwhile, Trabzonspor may replace Onuachu with Enis Destan should the Nigerian return back to his parent club next summer.
Destan was promoted to Trabzonspor’s first team by Nenad Bjelica after a loan spell the previous season. He replaced Umut Bozok based on his performance and has become the second-choice striker to Onuachu.
The 21-year-old scored twice in 10 league matches and provided one assist. His contract, extending until 2026, is also expected to be prolonged. The club believes that if Destan continues to progress, he could attract substantial offers from European clubs soon.
While Onuachu aims to make a greater impact for the Black Sea Storm during his time in the league, an improved bid by the Turkish side might persuade Southampton to consider selling him.
The six-foot-six inch striker was signed from Belgian side Genk for £18m by former Saints boss Nathan Jones but failed to make an impact on the south coast.
