This, it said, is to protect the rights of people with disabilities.
The House also declared that it would uphold and advance the rights and dignity of individuals with disabilities.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on PWDs, Mr. Bashiru Dawodu, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja, at the unveiling of the translated and simplified version of the 2018 Disability Act.
Dawodu said, “A gentleman translated the NYSC manual into braille. This is the type of amazing resources we have in the community, for somebody to do that. So, we are going to push that and ensure the orientation camp has that.
“The House will stand up for you, we will ensure your rights and dignity are protected to keep hope alive.”
According to him, the House was worried that there was no use of sign language during plenaries, but the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, approved their request and this made it the first time in Nigeria.
The National Director of The Leprosy Mission of Nigeria, Mr. Sunday Udo, stated that language shouldn’t be a barrier to knowledge.
He said “This significant accomplishment reflects our dedication to making information accessible to all individuals including those with disabilities. Access to information is a right,” he said.
