A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Tuesday granted bail to a former Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Area, Cassidy Ikegbidi, and a traditional ruler, HRM Ngozi Onugwo and five others.
They are standing trial over the murder of the Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada East LGA, Bako Angbanshin in Odumude community, Rivers State by suspected Iceland cult gangs.
HRM Onugwo, who is the Eze Ekpeye Logbo, the former council boss and the others were granted bail on health grounds.
The trial judge, Justice Sika Aprioku, in his ruling on their bail application, granted the duo a bail of N10m each with one surety in like sum.
Justice Aprioku said the sureties must be the level of Permanent Secretary in the civil service or a government-recognised traditional ruler from the Ahoada area of the state.
The judge also granted bail of N5m to the five others and surety in like sum who must be a level 16 civil servant, bringing the total to N45m.
Aprioku ordered the accused persons to deposit their travel documents such as their passports at the court.
The case was adjourned to December 8, 2023 for trial.
The accused are standing trial on charges ranging from alleged conspiracy to murder, murder of SP Bako Angbashim, former Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada Police Division to sponsorship of cultism etc.
