A 23-year-old mechanic, Basit Ismail, has appealed to individuals and organisations to assist him in raising the sum of N620,000 for surgery to remove the tumour growing in his cheek.
Basit, who resides in Ikare, Ondo State, disclosed that he has been battling with the ailment for about eight years and his mother, Mrs Mariam Ismail, has exhausted her finances caring for him.
Speaking with Sunday Special, he appealed, “This swelling started about eight years ago and I have been going to hospitals. It is a tumour and it has grown so much that I find it difficult to eat or talk properly.
“The doctor at Mount Zion Healthcare here in Ikare Akoko has recommended me for surgery that will cost N620,000 to remove the tumour. My mother is a widow and I am only a mechanic. I call on kind-hearted individuals and groups to please assist me in going for this surgery. I am in much pain, please come to my aid.”
A medical report forwarded to our correspondent by Basit, dated May 15, 2023, and signed by a consultant Pathologist, Dr Collins Duru, wrote in the diagnosis section “Facing mass (excision segment): Buccal mucosa.”
The report read, “Patient presented with eight years history of progressive increase of the cheek swelling presently, swelling is massively located in the cheek and mandible with obliteration of naval passage with associated flaring of the nostrils.
“Historical session show a fibro-osseous lesion composed predominantly of fibrous tissue which are fragments of mature bone tissues. The fibro tissue is cellular in some areas and acellular and hydralinised in other areas. Thin-walled congested blood also seen.”
