The Nigerian Navy Ship Soroh, Central Naval Command, Agudama-Epie, on Thursday, carried out a free medical outreach for the residents of Ovom community in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Speaking at the event, on behalf of the Flag Officer Commanding CNC, Rear Admiral Samson Bura, the Commander, NNS Soroh, Commodore Abdulkareem Ojebode, said the free medical rhapsody was organised by the NNS Soroh as part of its end of year activities.
He expressed the commitment of the Nigerian Navy to fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities to its host communities and to strengthen existing cordial relationships with them while rendering humanitarian services.
Medical services rendered by naval medical personnel to the community people included blood pressure checks, blood sugar checks, hepatitis B and C screening, insecticide-treated nets distribution, deworming,
Ojebode, while addressing the residents, said, “This exercise conforms with the tenets of civil-military relations and in consonance with the Chief of the Naval Staff Strategic Directives 6, 2023.
“The naval medical rhapsody entails reaching out and rendering free medical services to a selected community by NN medical personnel. The beneficiaries of this event are usually communities which play host to a Navy establishment.
“This year, the Central Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy chose your community, Ovom community, as the beneficiary of the medical rhapsody. The choice of Ovom, apart from being humanitarian, also aims at building on the existing cordial relationship between you and the Nigerian Navy.”
Earlier, the Command Medical Officer, CNC, Navy Captain Abubakar Aliyu, said he was optimistic that the gesture would strengthen the bond between the community and the Nigerian Navy.
