Nneji was sentenced to three years imprisonment on November 29, 2023, at a Family Court of Delta State sitting at the High Court Agbor, presided over by Justice CN Ogadil.
But instead of taking the teenager to a children’s remand home, Nneji was detained in the cell of Nigeria Police, Agbor for over a week after his conviction.
The teenager had allegedly committed the rape offence when he was 15 years old while the female victim (name withheld) was 13 years old.
However, counsel for Nneji, Mr Favour Enuji, told PUNCH Online that the teenager was moved to Children’s Remand Home on Friday.
Enuji noted that the court specifically ordered for the prison term of the juvenile to be served at the Delta State Children Remand Home in Sapele.
He said, “At about noon, officers of the court went to the police station and moved the child convict away from the police cell to the Children Remand Home Sapele to which he was sentenced.
“I am very okay and happy not that my client is being remanded, but because the order of the court has been complied with. Keeping him locked in the police cell was a dirt on the integrity of the court.
“I want to thank you PUNCH for voicing out.”
