In the Greek hamlet of Neochorouda, a 50-year-old woman lost her life after being mauled by three shepherd dogs in her garden, according to a Monday Sky News story.
Police sources claim that the dogs went to the woman’s garden where she was working after breaking through a gap in their owner’s fence, which was about 80 meters away.
According to the story, the woman called out to a man who the police claimed was deaf-mute, but he was far away from her and was unable to hear her screams during the attack.
When rescue personnel with an ambulance arrived, the woman was found to be dead at the site after suffering severe mauling and heavy bleeding.
According to Greek national radio ERT, the woman’s two kids, ages 17 and 18 heard their mother’s screams but were too late to help.
The dogs were described as “huge, wild ones” by her ex-husband to the broadcaster, who also said that “they have left many times and chased people many times.”
“This is not the initial instance,” he bemoaned.
The dogs are being detained in a kennel and will be put down, but the 37-year-old dog owner was taken into custody and is scheduled to appear before a prosecutor on Monday morning.
The Greek newspaper Ta Nea said that the woman had been a candidate in local elections and had resided in the area for twenty years.
