Bammeke, who is the proprietor of the Golden Mother International School in Ugbe Akoko, Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State, lamented that the removal of oil subsidy had caused hyperinflation in the country which consequently affected the operation of private schools, hence the need for the government to assist the owners.
The educationist made the appeal at the carol and thanksgiving service of the school on Thursday in Ugbe Akoko area of the state.
Describing education as the quickest way to a country’s technological development, if well managed, the proprietor urged the government to support the educational development in Nigeria.
She said, “The government should assist private school owners. Private schools are faced with high and multiple taxation, whereas, education shouldn’t be commercialised because of the indigent children from poor parents.
“The removal of oil subsidy in the country has hyperinflation and it is counter-productive to our educational development. That is why I am urging the government to extend the palliative measures to the private schools to bail us out of the burden of maintenance. We need the government’s assistance.”
In his remarks, the principal of the school, Mr Clement Imoru, appealed to the government to assist the private schools by granting aid to them for them to remain in the business of nation-building.
