A comedian, Bennet Daniel, aka Mc Acapella, has said that switching from music to comedy in the early days of his career was not hard for him to do.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, the funnyman noted that back then, he tried his hands on different things till he found success in comedy. He said, “Transitioning from music to comedy was not really hard for me. When I was doing music, I was part of an acapella group, and at the time, I was also doing comedy on the side. I was just a teenage boy trying out everything. It wasn’t like I had built a career in music. I was just doing music and comedy as well. But, along the line, I chose one and focused on it. That was how comedy became a priority for me.”
The comedian also advised young entertainers not to feel too relaxed in their comfort zones. He said, “My advice for up-and-coming comedians is that you cannot really know what a place is like until you go there. You have to try out different things and styles. If it is to do storytelling, stay there. And, if you have to do conscious comedy, stay there. Just find where your strength is, and build on it.”
Recalling the early days of his comedy career, Acapella said, “I started doing comedy in 2002. I had always been the funny guy around my friends and family. As a kid, whenever anything happened and it was being narrated to my parents, my mum would say that she wanted me to be the person to give her the gist.
“Some of my biggest influences in the industry are Okey Bakassi, Basketmouth, AY, Bovi, D-Don, and Seyi Law. They are the biggest influences on my comedy career for different reasons. Outside Nigeria, one of the biggest influences on my comedy career is the American comic actor, Eddie Griffin.”
