A UK-based Nigerian expert in sports marketing, LuSola Adewumi, has compared Czech first league club, SK Dynamo České Budějovice, to Nigeria’s Premier Football League side, 3SC after taking over as the new vice chairman of Czech Republic topflight side, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The University of Lagos graduate was appointed to work with the majority owner and chairman of the board of directors of the club, Vladimír Koubek, to improve the conditions of the club, especially in terms of investment.
SK Dynamo Ceske Budějovice compete in the Czech first Division. They are a perennial mid-table club whose fortunes have also dwindled, therefore necessitating the appointment of Adewumi to turn things around.
While talking about his plans to help the Czech side regain financial strength, he said the club has a culture similar to that of the five-time NPFL champions.
“I liken Dynamo CB to Shooting Stars of Ibadan in so many ways. Like Shooting, it is a traditional club with incredible fan affinity and arguably everyone’s favourite second team.
“They are the third oldest club in Czech Republic, established in 1900, DCB is the biggest club in South Bohemia Region, and our city – Ceske Budejovice is the capital of that region just as Ibadan was the capital of the Old Western Region,” Adewumi added.
“We communicate with investors, sponsors and other stakeholders, at the local, regional and international level,” Adewumi told the club website.
“We’ve already embarked on two key areas – restructuring the sporting organisation in the club in line with global best practices, and our ongoing investment drive to engage potential partners for investiture, and growth of our network and connections to cutting edge sports technology and player development through this,” he noted.
The club are currently in danger of being relegated from the league, sitting bottom of the Czech first league with just 11 points after 19 games.
Despite suffering relegation three times, most recently in 2005, the club has won promotion back to the top-flight immediately on each occasion.
