The federal government has placed a ₦2 million bounty on Mrs Adachukwu Kukelu Okafor, who is accused of severely abusing her 10-year-old maid.
The woman allegedly burned the child’s private parts and body with a hot knife and hot iron.
The disturbing incident came to light when a video of the naked girl with burns all over her body went viral on social media.
Urgent action was taken by the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, who declared Mrs Adachukwu Kukelu Okafor a wanted person at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, February 12.
The suspect, believed to be a lawyer, has been evading authorities since the incident.
The minister disclosed that the suspect has changed her contact information but continues to post on social media with impunity.
The minister emphasized that it is within her power to intervene in matters concerning women and children across the nation.
She called on Nigerians to join in the search for the accused woman and hand her over to the police.
The Ministry of Women Affairs is offering a reward of to anyone who finds her, assists in her capture, or provides information leading to her arrest.
The minister also announced that the ministry will soon make a pronouncement on the employment of underage housemaids, as Nigeria already has laws against such practices.
