The University of Lagos Alumni Association, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja branch, has awarded scholarships to 24 brilliant but indigent students of public secondary schools in the FCT.
A statement by the association revealed that the alumni members in FCT unveiled N10m scholarship endowment, saying the award would cover the tuition for six terms as well as the Senior School Certificate Examination registration for the students.
While presenting the N2.5m scholarships, the Chairman, UNILAG Alumni FCT Branch, Mr Aliu Akoshile, said the 24 beneficiary students were selected from the six area councils of FCT after a rigorous screening process.
Akoshile stated that a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), singlehandedly offered a N5m support.
He advised the students to focus on their education, maintain high academic standards, and eschew all forms of vices in their communities.
Akoshile encouraged the female students to see a role model in the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, who had shattered academic records and risen to the zenith of her professional career.
The statement added that the ceremony was attended by the President of UNILAG Alumni Association, Dr Ifeoluwa Oyedele, while the FCT Administration was represented by the Mandate Secretary, FCT Education Secretariat, Dr Danlami Hayyo, the chairman and secretary of the branch’s education committee, Dr Emmanuel Ibe and Mr A. M. Ajani, respectively.
