Nwajiaku made the call during a media interaction with journalists on Monday, after the hospital, through IVF, facilitated the delivery of a set of quadruplets comprising a girl and three boys.
The quadruplets were delivered at the hospital on Wednesday by Mrs Stella Obimma after six years of waiting for a child.
Speaking on the development, Nwajiaku disclosed that the blessing of the set of quadruplets was delivered successfully in their facility to the glory of God and the excitement of both the medical team and the Obimma family.
He said, “IVF is a type of Assistive Reproductive Technology. It involves retrieving eggs from a woman’s ovaries and fertilising them with sperm. This fertilised egg is known as an embryo.
“The embryo can then be frozen for storage or transferred to a woman’s uterus. IVF works by using a combination of medicines and surgical procedures to help sperm fertilise an egg and help the fertilised egg implant in the woman’s uterus.
“Women who seek IVF in our climes are between the age bracket of 25 to 50 years, although the process is not tied entirely to age but indications based on the reason a woman would seek fertility services.
“For us in the medical field and the entire fertility team, it is a thing of joy and we are excited for the success story just like the Obimma family because this is one method to solve the challenge of childlessness in our environment and showcase to our people the fact that medical intervention in terms of ART, through IVF, works in our environment and give results.
“We do encourage our people; once you venture into the medical process with your faith and a good medical team, you will surely get the result.
“IVF also provides an opportunity for sex selection, which can be done in our facility. The IVF process costs between one million and 1.5 million naira which can be paid in instalments as drugs needed to stimulate the woman during the period of stimulation come from abroad, with the cost usually influenced by the rate of dollar to naira exchange rate.”
Responding to the development, a paediatrician at the facility, Dr Sylvia Echendu, stated that the quadruplets would be monitored closely because they were delivered before 37 weeks of gestation.
In her reactions, the visibly elated mother, Stella Obimma, appreciated God for the gift of the quadruplets, which she described as a “special blessing from God having lost a baby the previous year.”
“I give God all the glory for this huge blessing to me and my family in the form of a set of quadruplets comprising three boys and a girl.
“Just last year, I lost a baby, and God heard my cry and prayers by blessing me with four babies, I cannot thank Him enough for this moment of joy and for giving me the strength to pass through the process successfully,” she added.
On his part, the husband, Sir Vincent Obimma, who expressed great excitement, described the birth of the quadruplets as a great miracle for him and his wife.
Obimma, a former Senior Special Assistant on Transportation Matters to the ex-Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, narrated that they were looking forward to the birth of a baby, but God, in His infinite mercies gave them four which he described as “fulfilment of prophecy” to the family.
Obimma explained that his family was childless for six years before the birth of their first fruit — a baby girl followed by another before the delivery of the quadruplets.
He advised couples who are looking for children to be patient and wait for the Lord at all times.
