According to the organization, the scholarship was for students who had undergone the JAMB Form Scholarship Examination conducted by the VGR and performed excellently well.
The Programme Director of the organisation, in Ondo State, Mr Babatunde Timileyin, who spoke at the presentation of the scholarship awards to five students of Oyemekun Grammar School Akure, who are among the beneficiaries, disclosed this, on Friday
According to Timileyin, the programme was geared towards awarding academic excellence among the students of the state, explaining that the beneficiaries of the scheme did well in the GFS Examination conducted for the students.
He further explained that the scholarship would cover the beneficiaries up to the university level.
He added that the programme had started in 2012 and would continue to award academic excellence so that students could see that their academic performances were noted and would be awarded.
The director said, “We always have the programme annually where we conducted a Jamb Form Scholarship Examination across all the schools in the 18 local government areas of the state. The exam is open to all interested students from all parts of the state and those qualified will be given the awards.
“After their jamb examination, another examination will be conducted for those who passed and qualified. The candidates will be awarded university acceptance fees and tuition fees to final year in any federal university of their choice in the country. So far, over 563 students have benefited from this programme.”
Apart from awarding scholarships, Timileyin stated that the initiative also provided mentorship programmes, training and even financial support for the pupils.
Reacting to the gesture of VG Resources, one of the awardees, who is also the overall best student in the scholarship examination, Lucky Jireh, said, “I want to thank VG Resources for giving me this award and I also want to use this means to encourage other students to concentrate on their academic performance.”
