The Commandant, Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport, Adekunle Adeyinka, said that training of Army personnel is required to address present and emerging threats in the country.
According to a statement on Thursday, the commandant stated this at a Nigerian Army Leadership Seminar organised in conjunction with the Nigerian Institute of Management.
The seminar held at Apapa, Lagos State, had the theme “Social skills as a strategic tool for effective leadership and inspiration in the Nigerian Army”.
He added that the seminar’s goal was to imbue officers in the rank bracket of Lieutenant Colonels, Colonels, and equivalent with the requisite skills to enable them to make decisions appropriately when faced with operational difficulties.
Adeyinka noted that the training would optimise the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy, which is “To Transform the Nigerian Army into a Well Trained, Equipped, and Highly Motivated Force Towards Achieving its Constitutional Responsibility within a Joint Environment.”
He emphasised that officers should make the best choice in every situation to guarantee overall operational success and that doing so would enhance their ability to adapt to complex circumstances and defeat their enemies.
He said, “The seminar is designed to optimize the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, which is “to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped, and highly Highly force aimed at achieving its constitutional responsibility within a joint environment.
“Defeating adversaries requires enhanced social skills, which would enhance officers capacity to respond more appropriately to rather complex scenarios that unfold in the theaters of operations. I charge officers to think through all their actions to ensure their final decisions are optimal in every circumstance to guarantee overall operational success, remembering that the consequences of failure in military operations are grave and must be avoided at all costs.
The commandant, Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration, Julius Osifo, said the leadership seminar will help the officers manage diversity in the military through transformational leadership and emotional intelligence.
“The leadership seminar would be addressed around six modules, which include “Managing Diversity in the Military with Emotional Intelligence; Transformational Leadership; Competencies of the New Era, to mention a few.”
