Tragedy struck as a fatal crash claimed the lives of two yet-to-be-identified males who were burnt beyond recognition at the Chemist Bus Stop around Heathrow Hotel, Satellite Town in Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident occurred on March 15 at about 5.50pm.
It was also learnt that one of the deceased was carrying fuel, which caused a fire that claimed the lives of the motorcycle riders.
An eyewitness, simply identified as Isaiah, claimed that speeding led to the collision, resulting in the deaths of the motorcyclists.
“I think the problem was speeding because of the way they collided, and the damage was not expected. The thing that surprised me was that the vehicle started catching fire, and the people on the motorcycle burned immediately. I can only wish that they escaped, but all I can say is that their souls may rest in peace.
“I wish we could have saved them at that point, but the fire was too much. People passing by even tried to quench the fire with buckets of water because they thought they could save them, but they eventually died,” Isaiah said.
Another eyewitness, who did not disclose his identity, claimed that one of the motorcycle passengers carrying fuel caused the fire and that the victims suffered significant blood loss.
“Those guys died a painful death because they lost a lot of blood and they also burned to the ground. I doubt if anyone can recognise them. I feel if the other person was not carrying fuel, it would have been a different story entirely.
“The fuel one of the passengers was carrying made the accident worse. The people involved in the accident were burned beyond recognition,” the eyewitness said.
All efforts to get the reaction of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos Sector Commander, Babatunde Farinloye, proved abortive as calls made and messages sent to his mobile phone number had yet to be responded to as of the time of filing this report.
