Nigeria’s left hand batter Isaac Danladi says the Yellow Greens’ best is yet to come in the men’s cricket event of the ongoing African Games as they face test nation Zimbabwe in their last group game at the Achimota Cricket Oval on Wednesday (today), PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Yellow Greens need a win against the 13th-ranked nation in the world or at least a favourable result from the other last group game between Namibia and Tanzania in order to make it into the last four.
Following their opening day defeat against Tanzania on Sunday, Steve Tikolo’s men bounced back with a three-wicket win against Namibia on Monday, upsetting and condemning the test nation to their second defeat of the tournament.
Danladi, who got two wickets, was the Player of The Match in the win over Namibia on Monday and the 21-year-old is upbeat about the team’s chances of progressing.
“Big love and respect to my teammates. We have just started and we are not returning home yet,” Danladi said after the win over Namibia.
The last meeting between Nigeria and Zimbabwe was at the 2024 T20i World Cup qualifiers, which the Zimbabweans won by six wickets.
Nigeria are currently third in Group B with two points, the same as Tanzania, who stay in second with a superior net run rate. Zimbabwe lead the group with four points and are almost certain of a place in the semi-finals.
