The Academic Staff Union of Universities will appraise its mobilisations across various zones ahead of its planned nationwide strike action.
The union across various branches issued a three-week ultimatum to the Federal Government over some outstanding demands.
The core issues that pertain to condition of service includes all the contending issues as contained in the FGN/ASUU MoU 2012/2013, and the MoA of 2017, Illegal dissolution of Governing Councils in the Federal and State Universities, Release of three and a half months of the outstanding three and a half months withheld salaries for a work that was already done.
“Others are release of the unpaid salaries of our members on sabbatical, adjunct, etc due to IPPIS inadequacy and inefficiency, release of third party deductions by IPPIS, payment of Earned Academic Allowance, implementation of the report of the visitation Panels and adoption of UTAS in place of IPPIS.”
Recall that the government had commenced plans to pay the salaries of lecturers in federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education via the Government Integrated Financial Management System, popularly known as the GIFMIS.
A member of the National Executive Council of ASUU who spoke to our correspondent in Abuja under anonymity lamented the government’s demeanour to the whole situation.
He said, “We have observed for too long and are shocked that the government has chosen to ignore us. After the mobilization, the NEC will meet to appraise the actions and formally decide on the next line of action.”
