The feud between the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, and the Chief Imam of Ogbomoso, Teliat Ayilara, has been resolved.
The two prominent Ogbomoso indigenes had been at loggerheads as the monarch accused the chief imam of insubordination.
The religious leader was queried by the palace recently for embarking on the Hajj pilgrimage without the monarch’s approval.
The PUNCH reports that the Muslim Community of Oyo State, on Wednesday, called on Governor Seyi Makinde to, as a matter of urgency, intervene in the crisis.
Our correspondent gathered on Thursday that the peace meeting to resolve the feud was called at the instance of the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Ayodele Shonubi, on Wednesday.
It was further learnt that some of the issues in contention were the alleged breach of oath of office by the chief imam; alleged interference in the day-to-day running of the office of the chief imam; and the need to resolve the petition against the chief imam by the Ayilara family in Ogbomoso, among others.
Having listened to the two parties, the meeting was said to have asked the Chief Imam to apologise to the monarch.
An informed source said, “You know CP Shonubi is a man of peace and is desirous of maintaining peace in the town in particular and the state in general.
“So, he invited the Soun, Oba Olaoye, and the Chief Imam, Ayilara, for the peace parley. The issue has finally been resolved. The two parties also resolved to maintain peace.”
Investigations further revealed that the meeting resolved that the Chief Imam should withdraw all cases instituted at the court.
The source stated, “The meeting asked the Chief Imam to apologise to the Soun for failing to observe a section of his oath of office, which mandates him to inform the palace before travelling from base or appointing a surrogate. He was also mandated to withdraw all cases he instituted.”
The Soun was also said to have agreed to the withdrawal of the cases but objected to the withdrawal of the case in which the Chief Imam sought to prove that he was not a palace chief.
“He (the Soun) said the court should be allowed to adjudicate on the case because he owes it to the throne to defend the tradition.
“The Chief Imam was mandated to make efforts to resolve his differences with the Ayilara family, which was the genesis of the crisis. He was asked to tender an unreserved apology to the palace while the pending cases in the court are to be withdrawn,” another source said.
