The governorship candidate of Labour Party for the Edo State September 21 election, Olumide Akpata, has vowed to overhaul the education system of the state if elected into office.
The LP governorship candidate made the call while speaking to journalists on his programme for the state during his visit to the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Benin City, the state capital on Thursday.
He also lamented that many schools were in deplorable conditions in the state, even as he pledged to restore the glory of Ambrose Alli University, which he described as a disaster.
Akpata said, “We have a problem as far as the roads are concerned. The Labour Party is here for the rescue, we have a plan.
“The education curriculum should also be reviewed so that technology will become a major part of it. Any child not taught technology in today’s world will become a functional illiterate.”
Akpata, who gave the monthly internal revenue and Federal allocation of the state as N16 billion and debt profile as N600 billion, described the building of a museum by the state government as a misplaced priority,
He also faulted the government investment in a five star hotel, describing it as an error of judgement.
He said his administration would put the people at the centre of governance because they (The people) have been taken out of the government equation.
The LP candidate also promised to revamp the health sector and build healthcare centres in the 192 wards of the state to provide quality healthcare for the people.
