Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been receiving a lot of attention with her eye-catching performances for club and country, but one man who might not be surprised by her exploits is Super Eagles defender Bruno Onyemaechi, with whom she attended Comprehensive Secondary School in Amakohia Uratta, Owerri, the capital of Imo State, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Onyemaechi revealed this in a recent interview with Eagles Tracker while reflecting on his football journey.
“I started football when I was very young, probably when I was in JSS1. I played in a place called Orji in Owerri with my friends and schoolmates,” Onyemaechi said.
My friends will always tell me I made it in football when I was in secondary school. This lady, Chaimaka, and I went to the same secondary school and played together in school. At that time, she was the only female that played football with us,” Onyemaechi revealed.
Nnadozie, who started as an outfield player, is the current CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year. She will be hoping to replicate her form at Paris FC again for the Super Falcons as they prepare for the women’s football event of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Onyemaechi himself plays for Boavista in the Portuguese topflight along with Nigeria defender Chidozie Awaziem, while former Akwa United midfielder Ibrahim Alhassan has also teamed up with them for the 2024/25 season.
The Nigerian left-back had joined the Portuguese club on loan from Firense in the 2022/23 season, and the deal was sealed permanently in August 2023 for a reported fee of €1 million until the summer of 2026.
He went ahead to make 24 appearances in the Portuguese first division last season and also provided one assist as his market value rose to €3 million.
The 25-year-old also made his Eagles debut last October during the final game of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers against Sao Tome and Principe, a game Nigeria won 6-0 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
He also featured in friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique, playing full-time in both games.
