Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has responded to recent media reports alleging that hackers had taken control of the bank’s website, cloned it, and intercepted customer data.
In a statement released on Thursday, the bank clarified the situation, assuring customers that while there was an isolated attempt to compromise their web domain, their website had not been cloned and no customer data had been compromised.
The bank addressed concerns that surfaced after reports suggested that cybercriminals had seized control of GTBank’s website and created a fraudulent version to steal sensitive customer information. However, GTBank firmly denied these claims, emphasizing that customer data is not stored on their website, making it impossible for any such breach to occur.
“We would like to assure all our customers and stakeholders that the Bank’s website has not been cloned, and we do not store customer information on our website. As such, there has been no instance of compromise of customer data,” GTBank stated.
The bank also highlighted that its team of Information Security Experts is working diligently to restore domain settings affected by the attempted breach. They assured customers that the website would be fully operational shortly, urging them to disregard the alarming media reports.
GTBank reiterated its commitment to protecting customer data, emphasizing that the bank’s security infrastructure remains robust and that the isolated incident had been contained without any impact on customer accounts or data.
“Our dedicated team of Information Security Experts is currently working round the clock to restore domain settings, and we can assure our customers that our website will be up shortly. We urge all our customers to please disregard the claims in these media reports and assure you of our unwavering commitment to safeguarding customer data,” the bank said.
This statement from GTBank comes as a relief to many of its customers, who had expressed concern on social media platforms following the initial reports. The bank’s swift response and assurances are aimed at maintaining customer confidence in the face of growing cybersecurity challenges in the banking sector.
