The Honourable President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves opened the 2024 Judges’ Retreat on Thursday, 28 November, at a tranquil resort in Niger State, Nigeria. The three-day retreat brings together judges, directors and key staff of the Court to revise operational policies for some units of the Court and deliberate on new proposals to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the institution.
In his opening remarks, President Goncalves said that the meeting will review a draft strategy to operationalise the arbitration mandate of the Court, a draft consolidated text of the Protocol of the Court, and proposed practice direction and instructions to the Chief Registrar. New policies on contracts, archives, and library will also be discussed at the Retreat.
The President emphasised the commitment of the Courts’ management to implement recommendations adopted to advance the Court’s mandate and overall efficiency of the Court.
The retreat will hold from 28 November to 1 December 2024.
