The U.S. Maritime Administration has renewed its warning about threats to U.S. commercial vessels from Iran and its proxies in the Gulf and surrounding area.
The notification is valid from January 6 to January 13, 2019.
The agency issued a similar alert last week.
“There remains the possibility of Iranian action against U.S. maritime interests in the region,” the notice read.
Iran recently declared that it had identified American targets to be attacked as revenge for the killing of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran’s elite Quds Force.
A senior Iranian commander, General Gholamali Abuhamzeh, stated that some 35 US targets in the Middle East, as well as Tel Aviv, were within reach of Tehran.
He said: “The Strait of Hormuz is a vital point for the West and a large number of American destroyers and warships cross there.
“Vital American targets in the region have been identified by Iran since a long time ago. Some 35 US targets in the region, as well as Tel Aviv, are within our reach”.
