The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has ordered his men to deal ruthlessly with people protesting the declaration of Amotekun by the Federal Government if they harass law-abiding citizens in the metropolis.
“Whoever tries to harass or intimidate other law-abiding Nigerians from engaging in their legitimate business in the name of rally would have the full weight of the law descending ruthlessly on him,” the police boss said.
DAILY POST recalls that the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, last week, declared as illegal, the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, as illegal.
The statement has generated negative reactions from individuals across the nation, especially Yoruba leaders.
Consequently, Yorubas had planned to coordinate rallies simultaneously on Tuesday in the six Southwest States in support of Amotekun.
As the rally was ongoing in the ever-busy area of Panseke, Abeokuta, officers of the Nigerian Police Force and those of the Department of State Security, DSS were present.
Although the rally was not stopped, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Kenneth Ebrimson, who visited the venue, said the people have rights to peaceful assembly as enshrined in the constitution.
He, however, added that security Operatives were put on ground to forestall any breach of peace.
