The Zamfara State Health Services Management Board has revealed that over eighty ghost doctors and thirty-nine
ghost nurses have been discovered in its payroll.
Addressing newsmen in Gusau the state capital, the chairman of the board , Alhaji Mustapha Anka , explained that the ghost doctors and nurses were uncovered during a verification exercise carried out recently by the management of the board in its efforts to determine the actual workers in the payroll of the board.
The chairman noted that over twenty-million naira were being paid to ghost doctors and nurses monthly as salary and allowance.
He lamented thatm “the money used in paying these ghost workers who had been looting the state government ’s treasury could have been invested for the development of the state.
Anka stated that the board had taken drastic measures to purge the board of such wastages of the state resources , stressing that all the names of the ghost doctors and nurses have been removed from the payroll of the board.
“We cannot continue to fold our hands watching some undesirable elements reaping from where they did not sow, ” he thundered.
