Enyimba technical adviser, Usman Abd’Allah has expressed worry over his team’s inability to score goals in their recent outings.
The Peoples’ Elephant forced Sunshine Stars to a barren draw in a Nigeria Professional Football League match at the Akure Township Stadium over the weekend and while the away point is pleasing to Abd’Allah, the gaffer is growing grey hairs that the goals are not just coming through for his team.
“It is a kind of bitter, sweet, sour kind of emotion; but I’m happy with the draw,” the coach told the media as he reflected on the trip to Akure.
The Enyimba defence has been a solid one lately not conceding in any of their last five matches.
While the Aba Landlords seem to have found the right mix at the back, it is a complete departure upfront where the seven-time league champions have failed to score in three of their last five games, and Abd’Allah rightly admits that there’s is still a lot of work to be done to arrest the dangerous development.
He said: “Now we have to go back again and start scoring again because at the beginning of the season we were scoring and conceding then we came back not scoring and not conceding.
“The defence is doing well but we still have to get some bite in the attack because we only have Bashir (Abdulrahman) with four goals and Mustapha with one and three assists, so we need our strikers to keep on scoring goals. They have to keep on scoring goals. The defence is a little bit stabilised, but still, we have a lot of work to do in defence.”
